Q: What is the purpose of this recycling program?

A: There are three main objectives in hosting this recycling program. First, we believe that our immediate community has upwards of 1000 tons of unused electronic equipment stored in closets, garages and attic crawl spaces. Secondly, these electronics contain phosphorous and many heavy metals that are harmful to the environment. Thirdly, the safe recycling of these toxic materials will yield some proceeds which will be used to restore the riparian habitat of Hale Creek in Los Altos.

Q: Why should I recycle my electronics in this program?

A: This program provides a convenient two day schedule to choose from and there is no drop off fee. More importantly, you can be assured that your electronics will be recycled in accordance with the law AND that the proceeds from this program will be used to improve our natural resources in our own community.

Q: Can my company participate in this program as well?

A: Yes! You can either bring the unused electronics to the drop off location - or, if there are sizable quantities, you can contact the coordinators of this program and make special arranges for a free pickup at your company.

Q: I heard that there is usually a cost for dropping off my electronics. What will the cost be for this event?

A: There is no cost for you to drop off your electronics. There is a customary charge for you to drop off your electronics at a safe dump zone but that can cost up to $40! At this event you can drop off ALL your electronics for FREE.

Q: Why can’t I just dump my computer in my garbage?

A: It is actually illegal to dump your electronics in your personal garbage. If you are caught doing so a fine up to $5000.00 can be applied.

Q: Why should I recycle my electronics now?

A: Was one of your New Year Resolutions to clean out the garage? This is the perfect time to do just that. You know you received all new electronics as presents during the holidays, so what time would be better then now to clean out the old and bring in the new!

Q: Where will my electronics go after you take them?

A: The company who is collecting the electronics will either safely recycle the items or, if they can be refurbished, then they will be fixed and redistributed to companies in third world countries that can use the equipment.

Q: I have heard on the news lately that all our old electronics are being shipped to Africa and dumped there, is that what this company does?

A: NO! Amerturk is fully certified with California Integrated Waste Management Board, the Department of Toxic Substance Control, and the California Environmental Protection Agency. This ensures that equipment, if it can not be used, is recycled safely with no further harm done to the environment.
